Language Arts Curriculum Designer – K‑5 Assessment Focus

About the role

IXL Learning is seeking a Language Arts Curriculum Designer with an assessment focus to create engaging K‑5 assessment items. This full‑time remote position supports the development of high‑quality, standards‑aligned English Language Arts assessments used by millions of learners.

Key responsibilities

• Write and review clear, engaging assessment items for grades K‑5.
• Collaborate with writers, editors, and illustrators to ensure content is accurate and age‑appropriate.
• Develop achievement‑level descriptors and related documentation.
• Work with curriculum designers, psychometricians, product managers, and leaders to define assessment scope and approach.
• Plan and manage projects to deliver high‑quality assessment items on schedule.
• Research state educational standards and analyze content requirements.
• Support additional ELA curriculum design projects, including standards alignment and content review for IXL learning activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field with a focus on literacy.
• 2+ years experience writing foundational reading items for statewide or national assessments.
• Experience teaching beginning or struggling readers using a structured literacy approach.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Strategic thinker with strong problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to quickly learn new guidelines and software; familiarity with HTML, Jira, or version‑control tools is a plus.
• Curriculum development or instructional design experience is a plus.
