Landscape and Grounds Technician (Multiple Positions)

About the role

Abilene Christian University (ACU) is hiring for several landscape and grounds positions in its Abilene campus: Team Lead, Landscape & Grounds Technician, Groundskeeper, Landscape Gardener and Off-Campus Landscape/Grounds Technician. The work is done in teams to maintain the landscape and grounds in each zone and enhance the campus's beauty. ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ and the position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and willing to support the university's Christian mission.

Key responsibilities

• Work as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape and Grounds, following the department's rules, policies and procedures.
• Order materials and supplies as needed for work orders and complete them.
• Fill out work orders and written reports daily.
• Maintain water quality, clean and monitor the mechanical parts of fountains to the university's standard.
• Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed.
• Attend approved work-related training, keep equipment clean and maintain it, and perform work safely.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with five years of hands-on experience with landscape, grass and interior plant materials, or an Associate degree in Horticulture.
• Valid Texas driver's license, post-offer physical examination and medical history check, and passing a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Good health and stamina to lift, carry and pull loads over 50 pounds, ability to climb ladders, and ability to work in extreme heat or cold.
• Honest, trustworthy, dependable, punctual, neat and clean in appearance.
• Professing Christian and willing to support the university's Christian mission.

Required skills

• Knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Skilled in water quality and fountain/pool maintenance.
• Written and verbal communication skills, basic safety training, and excellent customer relations and service.
