Land Surveyor I

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring four Land Surveyors (Land Surveyor I) in Ottawa, Illinois. This is an entry-level, salaried, full-time position (8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday) that assists the survey crew in obtaining accurate survey measurements and operating and reading the instruments used for route, bridge, hydraulic and property surveys. The work location is the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation, Region 2, District 3, Bureau of Program Development.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the collection and recording of accurate survey data using survey instruments in an efficient manner.
• Perform calculations based on instrument readings and present the information in a meaningful format.
• Carry out duties in line with departmental safety rules.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois, or
• A bachelor's degree in land surveying from an accredited institution plus the Fundamentals of Surveying exam or a Surveyor Intern license, or
• A bachelor's degree in a related science with 24 semester hours of land surveying courses plus the Fundamentals of Surveying exam or a Surveyor Intern license.

The position is unionized, so the collective bargaining agreement applies. The anticipated starting salary is $4,256 per month, with a range of $4,256 to $7,327 per month.
