Laborist – Medical Physician

About the role
The Laborist provides direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for a defined patient population, working under indirect supervision. This position involves managing patient care activities, prescribing medications, and coordinating with specialists and support staff.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct physical examinations, assessments, and diagnoses for assigned patients.
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals and develop treatment regimens appropriate to medical conditions.
- Refer patients to specialists and relevant care resources as needed.
- Train and supervise medical students, residents, and other clinical staff.
- Oversee daily operations of a medical program or patient care unit when required.
- Coordinate nursing and support staff activities to ensure quality patient care.
- Adhere to organizational policies, quality improvement goals, and safety/infection‑control standards.
Required profile
- Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) with completed residency and internship.
- Board certified or board eligible in the relevant medical specialty.
- Current New York State medical licensure and Federal DEA certification.
- Knowledge of legal, ethical, and accreditation standards for medical practice.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
