Laboratory Technician – Materials Testing

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our materials testing team in Ithaca, NY. You will work under supervision to set up and operate a range of testing equipment, supporting engineers and senior technicians on research and customer projects.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate laboratory testing equipment under supervision.
• Perform routine mechanical tests such as tensile, compression, flexural, shear, impact, fatigue, and creep.
• Follow detailed ASTM and ISO testing procedures precisely.
• Monitor tests, record observations and instrument readings, and enter raw data into laboratory software.
• Photograph and document specimens before and after testing.
• Verify equipment calibration, perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
• Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
• Assist with sample preparation for plastics, composites, metals, rubber, foams, ceramics, and adhesives.
• Package, return, or dispose of tested specimens according to procedures.
• Ensure a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment and adhere to ISO 17025 quality and safety protocols.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in a manufacturing, quality, or testing environment.
• Ability to accurately collect, record, and organize test data.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift 25–50 lb, and perform occasional bending or kneeling.
• Self‑driven problem solver with a positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
