Laboratory Support Coordinator (Healthcare)

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a Laboratory Support Coordinator to manage administrative and customer‑service functions for its laboratory services. The role involves handling inquiries, processing payments, coordinating ancillary testing, and supporting both internal staff and external clients.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, fax or in‑person and provide status updates on investigations.
• Process payment transactions, maintain accurate records, and forward receipts to appropriate parties.
• Manage requests for autopsies, slide returns, ancillary and send‑out testing, including add‑on and alternate sample requests.
• Enter billing information for external laboratory contracts and generate invoices for legal or research services.
• Accession, label, and gross specimens received in consultation and coordinate with reference labs for results and pricing.
• Track and log critical values for cytogenetic testing and STAT sample pick‑ups.
• Create IT or facilities tickets, request archival of material, and triage samples for storage.
• Update patient encounters, enter test results into UCHART, and monitor electronic test re‑runs.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple administrative tasks accurately.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal staff, external customers, and vendors.
• Experience working in a laboratory or healthcare support environment.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain confidential records.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Workday for internal processes.
• Experience using UCHART or similar laboratory information systems.
