Lab Technician III – Immunohistochemistry

About the role

The Laboratory Technician III works evenings on the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, supporting the Immunohistochemistry Diagnostics Institute. The role involves specimen accessioning, data entry, workflow coordination, and advanced laboratory processing.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), including esoteric testing.
• Perform advanced tracking investigations and serve as a subspecialty client liaison.
• Handle frozen section processing, create cell block slides, and assist with cytology adequacy assessments.
• Prepare specimens, conduct manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, routine maintenance), and run LIS logs.
• Retrieve, sort, track, and deliver specimens; perform logistic activities within and outside the lab.
• Maintain compliance with safety SOPs, regulations, and documentation requirements.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a science field with two years of lab processing experience, or four years of Lab Technician experience, or active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program.
• Physical ability to handle specimens, move up to 50 lb, and work in a stationary position for extended periods.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for accessioning and log management.
• Experience with frozen section slide creation and cell block slide preparation.
• Manual processing techniques including centrifugation and aliquoting.
• Use of tracking software/devices for specimen logistics.
• Knowledge of safety protocols, SOPs, and proper documentation practices.
