Lab Assistant – Evening Shift (Jeff HWY)

About the role

Ochsner Health seeks a dedicated Lab Assistant for the evening shift at the Jeff HWY location. The role supports the laboratory department by performing a range of specimen handling tasks, from phlebotomy to processing and distribution. You will work with a compassionate, inclusive team focused on delivering exceptional patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and process specimens, including phlebotomy, centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling and distribution to appropriate test sites.
• Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, perform quality‑control checks, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Order, inventory and stock laboratory supplies to keep operations running smoothly.
• Adapt interactions to respect patient privacy and communicate procedures clearly.

Required profile

• High School diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience working in a controlled environment; 1 year hospital‑based phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant license or ability to obtain it within 180 days of hire.
• Physical ability to lift up to 30 lb, bend, reach, and stand at a counter for extended periods.

Required skills

• Use of Laboratory Information System (LIS) for data entry and retrieval.
• Proficiency with Windows operating system and related software applications.
• Accurate data entry and computer‑driven record keeping.
