Journeyman HVAC Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is looking for an experienced HVAC Mechanic to join its team in Springfield, VA. The role covers installing, modifying and repairing refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and control systems, as well as maintaining and repairing stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries. An active TS/SCI security clearance is required.

Key responsibilities

• Install, modify and repair refrigeration units (hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, scroll and centrifugal), air conditioning, ventilation, reverse osmosis systems, computer rooms, process coolers, ice machines, evaporative cooling and air compressing systems, including pneumatic, DDC and building control systems.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair Honeywell Enterprise Building Integrator (EBI) DDC systems and related mechanical equipment, and ensure calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and controls.
• Install, repair and maintain motors, engines, pumps, belts, fans, air handling units, VAV boxes and fan-powered boxes.
• Maintain the safe operation of environmental controls, oil/gas fired water tube boilers and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, de-aerating tanks and air compressor blowers.
• Learn the facility layout and operating procedures, act as a site subject matter expert recommending operational procedures and reliability improvements, and help resolve work problems.
• Perform difficult installation and modification tasks, including temperature and environmental control systems, air distribution, refrigerated warehouses, evaporative ventilation and dehumidification systems.
• Maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as fume hoods, de-ionized water systems, bio-clean systems, vacuum systems, cascade refrigeration systems and laboratory sinks.
• Repair complex components such as compressors, condensers, heat pumps, refrigerant lines, valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, variable speed drives and electronic, hydraulic and economizer systems.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, with the ability to read and write at a level sufficient for the job.
• At least five years of HVAC Mechanic experience.
• Ability to lift 45 lbs.
• Attention to detail, good analytical and organizational skills.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
