Italian Subject Matter Expert, Assessment Revision

About the role

Alchemy supports major education publishers on the development of digital and print learning products. It is looking for an Italian language subject matter expert to revise the assessment program for a second-edition introductory Italian product, working directly in the publisher's authoring platform. This is assessment revision, not content authoring: you will revise existing tests so they align with a new print edition.

Key responsibilities

• Revise 32 flat tests in the product's activity bank (A and B versions of 12 chapter tests, 2 midterms and 2 finals, each with 11 items or fewer).
• Keep each A and B pair comparable in difficulty, coverage and length while ensuring the two versions are not identical.
• Revise 20 to 50 percent of each test to align with the new print edition, using the print PDF supplied in the shared project folder.
• Evaluate 4 Integrated Performance Assessments and provide written findings.
• Review all revised items for linguistic accuracy, appropriate vocabulary and grammar level, and cultural authenticity.
• Follow the publisher's World Languages authoring guidelines and checklists.
• Join a short weekly check-in with the project manager, up to 30 minutes as needed.

Required profile

• Fluent or near-native Italian, able to judge register, usage and cultural authenticity in instructional material.
• Demonstrable experience writing or revising language assessments at the introductory post-secondary level.
• Ability to work to a fixed delivery schedule and answer questions from the learning design team within one business day.
• Preferred: experience with publisher-provided digital products, integrated performance assessments or ACTFL proficiency frameworks, and previous work on a second edition or revision cycle.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of parallel-form test construction (two equivalent versions of the same test).
• Comfort working inside a publisher authoring platform; training is provided.

The publisher provides VPN, file share and authoring platform access before work begins. AI tools may not be used on client content without prior written approval from the publisher, and all work is performed on a work-for-hire basis.
