IT Support Specialist I

About the role

The City of Plantation is seeking an IT Support Specialist I to join its Information Technology Department. This non‑exempt, at‑will position provides technical assistance to city employees, handling hardware, software, and network issues while delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain PC hardware, peripherals, and application software.
• Assist end‑users with Microsoft Office Suite and other applications.
• Monitor the help‑desk system, assign tickets, and ensure timely resolution.
• Support voice and data Ethernet cable pulls and terminations.
• Document assets for inventory management.
• Perform related duties as directed by supervisors.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in a technical support role.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle confidential data.
• Physical ability to climb a 6‑foot ladder and lift up to 50 lb.
• Successful completion of ITIL Foundation certification within one year of hire.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PC hardware installation and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Understanding of Ethernet cabling and terminations.
• A+ certification (preferred) and ITIL Foundation knowledge.

• Full‑time schedule, Monday‑Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
• Probationary period of one year.
• Designation as a “Recovery” role in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan, with required NIMS training.
