Software Engineer, Applications (R&D Development Program)

About the role

Stryker's R&D Engineering Development Program is a 20-month, on-site program starting each September, designed to build engineering and leadership skills in medical device development. As a Software Engineer, Applications, you will support application software development and maintain design documentation for robotic-assisted surgery products, working with peers and subject matter experts to deliver software that meets customer and system requirements. The role sits within the Mako Smart Robotics line.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design and implementation of application software that controls, navigates and serves as the user interface for robotic surgical systems, using Agile software development.
• Carry out software product development activities under supervision, following defined requirements, architecture, design principles and coding standards.
• Work with R&D, Quality, Marketing and Project Management as a member of a Scrum team.
• Follow SDLC procedures under supervision, including code reviews, unit and component testing, code analysis and defect management.
• Help refine software engineering documentation in line with R&D procedures and the Quality Management System (QMS).

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Software, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline, with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (or equivalent).
• At least 0 years of work experience.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.; no sponsorship needed now or in the future.
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
• Preferred: experience with IDEs, Qt/QML, Linux, Docker and version control, and knowledge of SDLC and Agile.

Required skills

• Exposure to C++ and object-oriented programming.
• Preferred: tools for static/dynamic analysis, memory management, unit testing and code coverage.
• Preferred: coursework in linear algebra, computational geometry, computer graphics, software architecture, image processing and robotics.
