Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO)

About the role

Petaluma Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing primary care and mental health services in Southern Sonoma County, is hiring a full-time Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO). The physician works in a team-based outpatient clinic environment integrated with behavioral health, with a patient panel of 18 to 22 patients per day supported by certified medical assistants, referral specialists and RNs. The center has two clinics, in Petaluma and Rohnert Park.

Key responsibilities

• Take histories, examine patients, order diagnostics and treat them in the outpatient setting for patients over 16 years old.
• Provide admission, work-up, diagnosis and non-surgical treatment for patients in skilled nursing facilities and hospitals, in line with clinical training and privileges.
• Obtain consults when a problem is outside the physician's scope of practice.
• Provide patient education and respect cultural needs; take after-hours calls and participate in weekend clinics.
• Supervise PAs and FNP staff and provide consultation to practitioners on complex adult cases.
• Give continuing medical education to providers at least twice a year and support quality improvement and peer review.
• Maintain credentials, including the California medical license, DEA registration, CME hours, CPR certification and others.

Required profile

• Graduate degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited residency.
• Board-certified MD/DO with a current California license and DEA registration.
• Bilingualism in English and Spanish, written and verbal, preferred.

Required skills

• CPR/BLS certification.
• Medical specialty board certification or eligibility.
