Insurance Verification Specialist I

About the role

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the Optum family of businesses, is hiring an Insurance Verification Specialist I in Pearland, Texas. The position is hybrid and sits within a multi-specialty clinic offering care from more than 900 medical providers across 65 specialties. The role supports higher quality, higher patient satisfaction and lower total costs.

Key responsibilities

• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
• Determine insurance filing order
• Prepare patient pre-treatment cost-share estimates based on the service schedule, contracted plan reimbursement allowances, benefits and out-of-pocket thresholds
• Enter or update patient demographics, insurance coverage, effective and termination dates and filing order in the Practice Management System
• Call or contact patients by phone or electronically to explain coverage, benefits and cost estimates, advise of non-coverage, take payments and set up payment plans
• Deliver a positive patient experience with strong customer service

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• 1+ year of experience in insurance verification, patient accounts or medical office functions, or 6+ months after completing a Medical Billing & Coding course, or 6+ months of registration, scheduling or front-desk experience at Kelsey-Seybold
• Basic knowledge of health insurance and proven ability to add and subtract 4-digit numbers and apply percentages and discounts
• For hybrid positions: own laptop, desktop monitor and keyboard at home

Required skills

• MS Office and fast, accurate computer and typing skills
• Alpha/Num forms entry
• Good verbal and written customer service skills
• Preferred: Epic experience, 2+ years of insurance verification experience, Kelsey-Seybold experience and excellent communication skills
