Infusion Nurse

About the role

NEXT Oncology, an Avacare business, is hiring an Infusion Nurse to work on site in Irving, Texas or Houston, Texas. The nurse must know standard oncology care practices, advocate for patient safety and protocol integrity, follow nursing standards and communicate effectively so that clinical trials run well and patients receive quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Oncology care: assess and monitor therapy, assist physicians with exams and procedures, document care, perform venipuncture and manage implanted ports and central venous access devices.
• Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste, and stay current through education and professional development.
• Act as a resource for medical assistants and LPNs, triage patient and family calls, teach patients and families, and refer them to community resources.
• Clinical trial practice: confirm informed consent before study tasks, educate patients on study procedures and adherence to self-administered protocol agents, and coordinate with the investigator on treatment schedules and doses.
• Administer investigational compounds, chemotherapy and biotherapy per protocol, collect samples and vital signs, record procedures and symptoms, and ensure evidence-based symptom management.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and mentor less experienced nurses.

Required profile

• Current BLS and ACLS certification, or obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Registered nursing license in the state where the role is based.
• IV and venous access device management skills.
• Chemotherapy/biotherapy administration experience.
• OCN preferred.

• Potential base pay of $62,700 to $157,100 per year, depending on qualifications, location and schedule.
