HVAC Controls Technician

About the role

Johnson Controls Federal Systems is seeking an HVAC Controls Technician to join its team at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. The position works primarily day shift (7:00 am‑3:30 pm, Mon‑Fri) supporting federal facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and point‑to‑point checkouts of HVAC control systems, primarily using the Johnson Controls Metasys building automation platform.
• Diagnose and repair electronic control malfunctions, test and modify system software, and assist with field changes and engineering corrections.
• Provide training, manuals, and documentation to customers, and support mechanical staff in troubleshooting.
• Complete all required documentation, including certificates of completion, training forms, and punch lists.
• Maintain technical proficiency through self‑study and required certifications, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Experience installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, or performing point‑to‑point checks on Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.

Required skills

• Knowledge of electronic/digital control systems and HVAC controls.
• Familiarity with BAS communication protocols such as BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, Modbus, LON, etc.
• Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys or Tridium Niagara DDC platforms.
• Use of electronic test equipment and ability to read blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
