About the role
The Housing Inspector will perform QA/QC inspections of building systems—including electrical, mechanical, fire & life‑safety, and structural components—for commercial, residential, and industrial projects, with a focus on government and military housing programs.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct on‑site inspections of electrical, mechanical, fire & life‑safety and structural systems for commercial, residential and industrial properties.
- Collect and record data using tablets and web‑based inspection software, including photographic documentation.
- Review construction plans, specifications and maintenance records to verify compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASTM, NFPA, NEC, ICC, ASME).
- Identify deficiencies, hazards or non‑conformances and provide corrective recommendations.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and communicate findings to property owners, contractors and stakeholders.
- Perform specialized military housing inspections following established protocols and InterNACHI guidelines.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience inspecting building systems or military housing.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- InterNACHI certification (interim required within first week, full certification preferred).
- For mechanical focus: welding/pressure‑vessel inspection knowledge; NDT knowledge is a plus.
- For fire‑life‑safety focus: bachelor’s degree in fire science or safety management preferred.
Required skills
- Proficiency with inspection software and web‑based data collection tools.
- Tablet operation for live data entry and photographic documentation.
- Knowledge of ASTM, NFPA, NEC, ICC and ASME standards.
- InterNACHI certification for housing inspections.
- Understanding of welding/pressure‑vessel inspection and non‑destructive testing (NDT) concepts.
