Hospital Courier – Medical Supplies & Specimens

About the role

The Hospital Courier ensures timely and secure transportation of medical items, lab specimens, and supplies between various locations of Opelousas General Health System. This position operates a hospital vehicle and supports after‑hours on‑call duties, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Pick up and deliver lab specimens, medical supplies, board packets, and mail.
• Obtain recipient signatures and verify delivery designations.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient specimens.
• Use cell phone GPS apps to plan efficient routes and confirm recipient availability.
• Perform routine vehicle maintenance such as tire inflation and cleaning.
• Handle mailroom tasks, including sorting and preparing outgoing mail.
• Communicate maintenance needs and assist with scheduling service.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to urgent situations.
• Clear communication skills with coworkers and external recipients.
• Reliability, punctuality, and capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness to rotate on‑call shifts, weekends, and holidays.
