Health Market Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Health Market Clerk in Peoria. The clerk keeps the health market safe and tidy, checks that food and merchandise look fresh, and provides courteous, friendly and efficient customer service. The position is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations and Perishables, and the Health Market Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers by name when possible, and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass along their suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and work with co-workers as a team.
• Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
• Review the status and appearance of food and merchandise for freshness, check product supply, anticipate daily needs, and rotate and replenish stock.
• For homeopathic and natural wellness products, point customers to the right item without giving advice on use.
• Check in product, put it away, remove trash promptly, and follow personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Secondary duties include ordering products and supplies, pricing items, delivering orders and helping in other parts of the store.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older.
• Less than high school education or equivalent, and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, count and record figures.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull and lift.
• Clear vision at distances beyond 20 inches and within 20 feet, with or without correction, and good color vision, depth perception and field of vision.

Working conditions

• Frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, and possible hazards from moving equipment, electrical shock and cleaning chemicals.
• Fast-paced environment; uses knives, wrapping machine, cash register, pallet jack, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor and calculator.

Starting hourly wage is $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
