Grocery Service Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Service Manager for its Peoria grocery store. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service and supervises and coordinates the activities of employees, or performs the work of all job levels. It reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations and eCommerce.

Key responsibilities

• Create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and encourage employees to greet and serve customers promptly and courteously
• Learn customers' names and assist them, including escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items and passing on customer suggestions
• Answer the telephone promptly and act as a role model for positive employee relations
• Plan and adjust work schedules, assign duties and supervise employees across the store, recommending promotions, transfers or disciplinary action
• Train employees in store policies, procedures and safety, and enforce compliance with security, sales and record-keeping rules
• Evaluate employee performance and train staff in safety procedures, including filling out accident and injury forms
• Order merchandise, verify deliveries, check quality and report discrepancies; compile sales, inventory and advertising data
• Determine ad and promotional display locations, explain store services to potential account customers and understand the basics of store accounting
• Handle cash registers, sell merchandise to employees and customers, and recommend cost-reduction programs
• Review personnel records, recommend shelf allocations and handle other store duties and special projects as needed

Required profile

• High school or equivalent education
• Two years or more of similar or related work experience preferred
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and follow technical manuals
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach and stand
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes and possible equipment hazards

What we offer

• Anticipated hourly starting wage of $16.50 to $20.60 depending on experience
• Employment is contingent on a successful pre-employment drug screen
