Health Information Technician 1 – Full‑time

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Health Information Management is seeking a full‑time Health Information Technician 1. The technician ensures that patient electronic health records are complete, accurate, and readily available for providers.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain daily workflow to acquire, prepare, and scan medical documents promptly.
• Retrieve discharge and visit documentation from assigned units and place records for reconciliation.
• Prep received records by removing staples, paper clips, sticky notes, and repairing torn pages.
• Copy severely damaged documents to enable scanning.
• Scan documents and images into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Index each document to the correct patient, encounter, and document type.
• Process electronic files from multifunction devices or email according to procedures.
• Provide coverage for at least one satellite facility as needed.
• Meet departmental quality and productivity expectations.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Effective communication with team members.
• Adherence to university and unit policies and safeguarding of assets.

Required skills

• Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Document scanning and imaging.
• Document indexing and classification.
• Use of multifunction office devices.
