Health & Benefits Consultant

About the role

Howden, a global insurance group, is seeking a Health & Benefits Consultant to advise clients on employee benefits strategy, plan design, cost management, compliance and wellbeing initiatives. The role works closely with clients, carriers, producers and internal service teams to help organisations attract, retain and support their workforce. It is a hybrid position, with preferred locations including Miami, New York, Tampa, Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Boston, Nashville, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a primary consultant for health and welfare benefit programs, advising on cost management, plan design, funding, wellness and engagement programs.
• Run annual renewals, including carrier negotiations, financial analysis and proposal evaluation, and support implementation of new programs.
• Analyse healthcare utilization, claims experience and funding arrangements, build financial models and prepare reports and presentations.
• Maintain knowledge of benefits regulations and assist clients with ERISA, ACA, COBRA and HIPAA compliance matters.
• Support business development, attend prospect meetings and build relationships with carriers and industry contacts.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of employee benefits consulting, brokerage, carrier or related healthcare advisory experience.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and communicate with senior stakeholders.
• Preferred: active Life & Health license or ability to obtain one, and CEBS, GBA, SHRM, SPHR or similar designation.

Required skills

• Group medical, dental, vision, life, disability and voluntary benefits knowledge.
• Ability to analyse financial data, carrier proposals and claims information.
• Advanced Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

What we offer

• Base salary of $110,000 - $160,000, depending on experience and location, plus a discretionary bonus.
