Head of Product Design

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system used by more than 675,000 businesses, is looking for a Head of Product Design to lead its global team of product designers and leaders across Australia, the UK, the US and Singapore. The role sits on the Global Leadership Team, owns the product design budget and leads a design organization that is a peer to product management and engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a global team of 40+ across Spend Management, Business Accounts, Payments, Billing, Platform, Growth and Design Systems.
• Scale the design organization's practice, quality standards, systems and culture globally.
• Hire, develop and retain a world-class design team and expand the San Francisco-based design studio.
• Work with the CPO to share the product experience strategy.
• Own the design budget end to end: contractors, tooling, learning, research, travel and team building.
• Steward the design organization's three operating principles and evolve them as the team grows.

Required profile

• Exceptional product and UX judgment from strategy to interaction patterns, information architecture, layout and UX copy, with a generalist UX background and strong product sensibilities.
• Track record of personally attracting, closing and calibrating designers and design leaders.
• Experience in fintech or a comparably complex product domain.
• Experience managing senior design leaders across regions and timezones, including calibration, promotion and org design.
• Comfort with company-level planning cycles such as OKRs, headcount plans and budgets.
