Head of PCB Layout & Design Infrastructure

About the role

Etched builds AI chips tailored to specific model architectures, and is looking for a PCB Layout & Design Infrastructure Manager to build and manage its hardware design framework. The role oversees PCB layout and design operations while driving a scalable design infrastructure, including an ECAD system, component libraries, BOM workflows, PLM implementation and change control. It also involves growing and managing a team of PCB layout engineers and ECAD librarians across the US and Taiwan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead PCB layout and design for complex, high-speed, high-density boards and define design standards and best practices
• Work with electrical hardware, layout, mechanical and manufacturing teams to optimise designs for performance and manufacturability
• Drive the selection and implementation of a new PLM system and establish component library management
• Set up change control, BOM management and revision tracking workflows
• Hire, mentor and lead ECAD librarians and PCB layout engineers, provide training and foster a collaborative culture
• Act as liaison with suppliers, fabrication houses and assembly teams, and evaluate new tools and methodologies

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field
• 7+ years in PCB layout, design or related fields, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role
• Experience building and managing component libraries and scaling hardware design teams
• Startup or rapidly scaling organisation experience is a plus

Required skills

• ECAD tools such as Cadence Allegro and Siemens NX
• PLM systems, BOM management and change control
• High-speed design, signal integrity and DFM
• Regulatory compliance standards (IPC, UL, CE) and hands-on PLM tool implementation are a plus
