Head of Market Risk – US Credit Trading (Executive Director)

About the role

Lead the market risk function for US credit trading at Santander Capital, overseeing risk for a broad range of credit products and hybrid instruments. Report directly to the US Head of Market Risk and the CRO, shaping risk strategy and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage market risk for all US‑traded credit products, including investment‑grade and high‑yield corporates, leveraged loans, emerging‑market bonds, convertibles and XVA.
• Oversee risk for underwriting activities of corporate bonds and convertibles in the US.
• Drive new product onboarding, policy development, and procedural controls.
• Lead infrastructure projects that support the credit trading business.
• Maintain relationships with US and European regulators and manage regulatory audits.
• Deliver regulatory projects such as FRTB US and GMS, and implement AI‑based risk tools.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of experience in risk management or controls within a financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of hybrid credit products (cash and derivatives) and associated hedging instruments.
• Proven ability to advise trading desks on risk mitigation and capital usage.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration with finance, model risk, and technology teams.
• Solid understanding of regulatory standards and market‑risk methodologies used by large banks.
