Head of Legal

About the role

Beacon AI is building an AI platform for aviation safety and efficiency. As Head of Legal you will own the day‑to‑day legal workflow, manage contracts, coordinate with outside counsel, and support business operations that keep the company moving forward.

Key responsibilities

• Run intake, drafting, review, negotiation support, signature, and filing for NDAs, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, partnership/pilot agreements, MSAs/SOWs, and basic data/security addenda.
• Maintain contract templates and fallback positions aligned with the company’s risk tolerance.
• Drive deal timelines, nudge reviewers, and decide when to escalate issues.
• Coordinate government and defense contracting reviews with outside counsel, track obligations, and translate contract terms into plain English for internal teams.
• Maintain invention assignment and contractor IP paperwork; liaise with counsel on patent or trademark matters as needed.
• Partner with engineering on open‑source software hygiene, tracking, approvals, and notices.
• Own offer letter, contractor agreement, confidentiality, invention assignment, and separation paperwork workflows.
• Manage recurring operational workflows such as vendor onboarding, insurance renewals, corporate filings, document retention, and signature authority matrices.
• Serve as the front door for outside counsel: scope, intake, budgeting, and translating legal advice into actionable steps.

Required profile

• Strong judgment and excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to push work to completion and manage multiple priorities.
• Comfort with both legal and practical business operations.
• Experience handling contracts, government/defense agreements, and IP matters.
