Hazmat Technician

About the role

R+L Carriers is seeking a Safety Hazmat Technician for its Chicago, IL service center office. The role involves emergency response, hazardous material cleanup, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and related safety duties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency response and clean‑up of hazardous and non‑hazardous materials, including site remediation and equipment decontamination.
• Lead safety activities such as proper containerization of waste, completion of safety documentation, and adherence to R+L procedures.
• Audit incoming and outgoing hazardous‑material shipments for regulatory compliance.
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure personnel competency.
• Coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors and participate in specialized scheduled projects.

Required profile

• 40‑Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (required).
• Physically fit and able to lift up to 75 lb.
• Ability to thrive in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced team environment.
• Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Detail‑oriented with capacity to handle multiple tasks confidentially.

Required skills

• OSHA HAZWOPER certification (40 hour).
• Microsoft Excel.
• Microsoft Word.
• Microsoft Outlook.
