Hardware Systems Engineer (AI Accelerator)

About the role

Etched builds AI chips tailored to specific model architectures, and is looking for hardware system engineers to join its team in Cupertino. The engineer will be responsible for schematic design of the accelerator module and help move the product toward manufacturing scale.

Key responsibilities

• Lead schematic design of the mezzanine card and base board for the accelerator systems
• Work with Signal Integrity, PCB and Mechanical Engineering to solve system-level design problems
• Collaborate with ODMs/OEMs on system requirements, including bring-up and validation plans
• Understand datacenter customer requirements so the servers meet them
• Bring up the system base board and mezzanine card
• Create and manage PCBA documentation, including BOMs and special assembly processes
• Define test plans and test equipment for bring-up and manufacturing

Required profile

• 5-10 years of experience in complex server/switch system design and development
• Proven track record of designing systems alongside silicon
• Familiarity with modern AI/datacenter system architecture
• Deep understanding of datacenter needs, especially high-power (>10 kW) AI servers
• Passion for modern AIs such as ChatGPT and willingness to learn about them on the job

Required skills

• Extensive experience with 100G Ethernet, PCIe Gen5, I2C, SPI and UART interfaces
• Schematic design and system-level hardware design
