Grocery Store Lead

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Grocery Store Lead who provides direction on operations, processes and conditions of their area, plans and guides team members in day-to-day department work, and models an exceptional customer experience. The role also involves supporting the store's culture, including diversity, equity and inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Engage peers to deliver the best possible shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience
• Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks
• Mentor and coach team members so customer service and sales goals are exceeded, the area meets Meijer standards and required trainings are completed
• Support training of new team members and cross-training of high-potential talent, giving peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards
• Work with leadership on department scheduling to improve team engagement, customer service, store sales and profitability
• Monitor rotation and dating policies to keep products fresh, and guide the team in complying with food safety standards and regulations
• Lead team members through ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing and product display where applicable
• Create an environment that supports the Meijer culture, including valuing diversity, equity and inclusion
• Operate a register and handle cash when needed, operate powered equipment where applicable, and take part in period-end inventories where applicable
• May be required to act in a lead capacity in other departments of the store

Required profile

• Retail or other customer service experience preferred
• Passion for customer service, with an approachable attitude toward customers and teammates
• Initiates interactions with customers and peers
• Excellent verbal and written communication, creative thinking and ability to influence others
• Able to quickly build rapport and gain customer confidence to create repeat business
• Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend and twist while handling product
