Fashions Softlines Team Leader

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Fashions Softlines Team Leader in Jenison who plans, directs and supervises team members in the day-to-day operations of the fashion department. The leader acts as mentor and coach, drives customer service and sales, keeps the store appearance up to standard and is responsible for the department's P&L.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members, and spend most of the time in the store.
• Handle staffing, selection and hiring to meet staffing needs, and promote succession planning with career paths and promotion accountability.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharge where needed.
• Manage the department's P&L, achieve sales targets and maintain shrink.
• Mentor and coach team members so they exceed customer service and sales goals and keep the area to Meijer standards.
• Ensure the team is fully trained and has completed all required training.
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational experience in other store areas such as meat, bakery, produce and deli, plus customer service and product flow experience, is helpful.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.

Required skills

• Clear communication and conflict resolution, addressing root causes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and analyze financial and statistical information.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and to mentor team members, including hourly workers and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
