Grocery Service Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Service Manager for its grocery store in South Sioux City. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service and supervises and coordinates the activities of employees, or performs the work of all job levels. Night and weekend shifts are required. The position reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations and eCommerce.

Key responsibilities

• Create a friendly atmosphere by greeting customers, learning their names and helping them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and act as a role model for employees, planning and adjusting work schedules and assigning duties.
• Supervise employees in all areas of the store, evaluate performance and recommend promotions, transfers or disciplinary action.
• Train staff in store policies, procedures and safety, and enforce compliance with security, sales and record-keeping rules.
• Order merchandise, verify deliveries, check quality and report discrepancies; compile sales, inventory and display data.
• Handle cash registers, sell merchandise to employees and customers, and recommend cost-reduction programs.
• Review personnel records, understand the basics of payroll and accounting, and stay current on market trends.

Required profile

• High school or equivalent; two years or more of similar or related experience preferred.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and communicate with people.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach and stand.
• Willingness to work night and weekend shifts in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes and chemicals.

Equipment used includes pallet jacks, cash registers, computers, calculators, telephones, forklifts and delivery vehicles. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
