Grocery Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Grocery Clerk in Bloomington. The clerk keeps all store grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers as needed and maintains a friendly, energetic demeanor, following all Grocery Department procedures. It is a full-time position requiring open availability to work any shift.

Key responsibilities

• Keep grocery shelves, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock shelves according to department schematics, presenting products correctly and checking tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products.
• Maintain point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional materials.
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and weigh and label products accurately.
• Cut and stack cases for displays, prepare back stock and check that tags match products.
• Walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience and previous experience in a natural foods industry.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Customer service, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Verbal communication and interpersonal skills, multitasking and organizational skills.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures, and familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail.
