Grant Strategist & Writer (Independent Contractor)

About the role

The Grant Strategist & Writer supports Creating Healthier Communities’ mission by identifying, developing, and securing institutional funding opportunities that align with strategic priorities and community impact initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Research, identify, and pursue federal, state, foundation, corporate, and other institutional funding opportunities.
• Develop and submit competitive grant proposals ranging from $50,000 to $8 million.
• Build and maintain a 12‑ to 24‑month grant pipeline, tracking deadlines and outcomes.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, program teams, finance, and external partners to craft funding strategies.
• Identify and cultivate collaborative/consortium funding opportunities.
• Manage grant documentation, reporting, and compliance throughout the grant lifecycle.
• Monitor funding trends and advise leadership on high‑value opportunities.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of grant writing and institutional fundraising experience.
• Proven success securing six‑ and seven‑figure grants.
• Experience with federal, foundation, and corporate proposals.
• Background in healthcare, public health, nonprofit, or social impact sectors preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
