Galley Utility / Messman

About the role

Chevron USA - Marine is hiring a Messperson (Galley Utility / Messman) for one of its US Flag fleet vessels. This is an entry-level position in the Galley Department, directly supervised by the Steward and Chief Mate. Applications close on November 29, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PST.

Key responsibilities

• Routine housekeeping: cleaning staterooms and public spaces and passageways, caring for and stocking laundry rooms, sanitizing public restrooms, managing ship's linen and collecting trash.
• Messroom duties: cleaning and maintaining steward areas, assisting with meal service, washing and stowing dishes, stocking and receiving stores.
• General cleanup after meals and keeping mess rooms and equipment sanitary.
• Safety: taking part in drills and emergency procedures, attending monthly safety meetings, reporting unsafe acts or conditions and stopping work when unsafe conditions arise; able to join the Emergency Response team.

Required profile

• Current USCG Merchant Mariner Document with Food Handling and VPDSD endorsements.
• Valid USCG/STCW medical certificate and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Valid passport and Basic Training certificates.
• Good communication skills.
• Effective teamwork, willingness to assist others, ability to work under pressure and a professional demeanor and appearance.

What we offer

• Anticipated hourly rate of $22.31 for those hired onto local US payroll.
• Vessel assignment length around 90 days for unlicensed personnel; vacation accrues at 25 days per 30 days worked.
• Pre-employment screening includes background check, DOT and hair drug tests and physical examination.
• No relocation is considered and expatriate assignments are not accepted; visa sponsorship is not available.
