Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – School Health Initiative

About the role

The Department of Pediatrics, School Health Initiative at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide direct nursing care to students across multiple school sites in Miami‑Dade County. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse, the LPN will ensure the health, safety and comfort of the student population.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and record patient assessment data, notifying the RN of any concerns.
• Administer medications, perform treatments and procedures, and provide first‑aid care according to clinic protocols.
• Assist with pre‑operative and post‑operative teaching for students and families.
• Maintain and update student health records and input data into clinic databases.
• Ensure vaccination compliance and communicate requirements to parents/guardians.
• Manage clinic inventory, prepare medical supplies, and follow infection‑control standards.
• Coordinate mandated health screenings and relay results to caregivers.
• Collaborate with school staff and team leaders to promote a safe and healthy environment.

Required profile

• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) credential in the state of Florida.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, families, and school personnel.
• Knowledge of Florida statutes governing LPN practice.
