Front End Cashier

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Front End Cashier in St. Louis to handle customer sales transactions at the front registers. The cashier must keep proper control of cash, ensure customer satisfaction and safeguard company assets, while assisting customers and keeping a friendly, energetic manner. The position follows the procedural guidelines of the Front End Department.

Key responsibilities

• Walk the store before each shift to check promotions and sales items, do the produce walk and weekly testing.
• Compute bills, itemized lists and tickets showing the amount due.
• Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, gift card or automatic debit.
• Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks and change.
• Operate the cash register: scan price-coded items, enter PLU or UPC manually, and show total, tax and rebates on the screen.
• Greet customers and respond promptly to their needs.
• Keep checkout areas clean and free of personal items, and issue coupons and rain checks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in front-end processes, and previous experience in natural foods is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Point of Sale (POS) system and basic math, weights and measures.
• MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
