Forensic Director – Psychologist

About the role

The Georgia Regional Hospital Savannah seeks a Forensic Director – Psychologist to lead criminal forensic evaluations and oversee psychology services within the hospital. This permanent, onsite position reports to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct court‑ordered pre‑trial forensic psychological evaluations, including competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, and violence risk assessments.
• Supervise mental health counselors, provide clinical supervision, and facilitate group and individual therapy.
• Develop and document individualized recovery and treatment plans, and participate on the recovery planning team.
• Prepare forensic reports, provide expert testimony, and complete the state’s Competency to Stand Trial Certification within one year.

Required profile

• Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA‑accredited program.
• Current Georgia license to practice psychology (temporary, provisional, or permanent acceptable).
• Minimum three years of experience at the Psychologist 3 level (or equivalent) within a forensic or severe mental illness setting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with forensic assessment tools such as the PCL‑R and HCR‑20.
• Experience conducting competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility evaluations.
• Ability to provide expert testimony in criminal cases.
