Food Service Manager Trainee

About the role

The Food Service Manager Trainee works alongside the Food Service Department Manager to build the skills and expertise needed to become a successful Food Service Department Manager. The trainee assists with all aspects of department management, from leading a team and managing inventory to analyzing sales and maintaining food safety standards, while delivering excellent customer service. The role is fast-paced and involves being on your feet throughout the shift.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and maintain a positive, team-oriented atmosphere
• Complete an activity book with the Department Manager covering all aspects of the department
• Help recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline and evaluate department employees
• Help set the weekly schedule and daily work plan
• Check signage and displays, order product for replenishment, and help figure retail pricing
• Post invoices and help with department bookkeeping
• Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, prepare ad projections and write ads
• Conduct inventory and help plan displays, promotions and pre-orders
• Maintain proper temperatures and storage to control shrink, and troubleshoot equipment
• Handle customer issues, take product orders, fill displays, unload trucks and check in delivered merchandise
• Keep confidential information such as pricing private, attend meetings and seminars, and take on special projects as needed

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Over six months up to one year of similar or related experience preferred
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, handle heat and burn hazards, and operate a delivery vehicle to DOT standards
• Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching and bending, and exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals

• Arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages
• Reading technical manuals and following written instructions
• Interviewing applicants and interacting professionally with customers and employees
• Leading and developing a team

Reports to the Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers, and to the Food Service Department Manager. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen. The anticipated hourly starting wage is $17.00 to $21.25 depending on experience.
