Food Department Manager - Retail

About the role

Meijer is looking for Food Department Managers to join its East and West Grand Rapids stores. The manager is responsible for the overall engagement of the team in their span of care, including recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, development and succession planning. They direct Leads and Team Leaders and are accountable for area operations and financials such as shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and staffing forecasts.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure team members receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching and feedback.
• Identify talent and hold career conversations to build a diverse pipeline for team member and leadership roles.
• Hold candid discussions so Meijer standards are upheld and team members can grow.
• Own area operations and financial results, including budget line items in the P&L, and drive safety, compliance and condition management.
• Make sure Team Leaders and Leads assign daily work and training needs.
• Implement process improvements and act as a steward of the Meijer culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and give precise direction to team members.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information to make informed decisions.
• Strong business acumen and understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising.
