Floral Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee's floral department helps customers find the perfect arrangement for every occasion, and its Floral Clerks are a key part of making those moments special. The role involves assisting customers with orders, creating beginner-level floral designs, keeping the department stocked and beautiful, and delivering warm, attentive service. It is an hourly position in the Floral department.

Key responsibilities

• Greet every customer and help them place floral orders in person or by phone, including completing all required order paperwork
• Prepare, finish and replenish products such as small arrangements, corsages, boutonnieres, roses, carnations, balloon bouquets, bows and other floral items
• Send and retrieve FTD, Teleflora and computer orders while keeping order details confidential
• Check products for freshness and anticipate daily product needs
• Water plants and keep the department clean, including coolers, counters, floors and sinks
• Prepare the daily delivery list, unload trucks, store product, check it in, put it away and process invoices
• Run the department register, receive payment and make change
• Answer the phone promptly and pitch in with other tasks or special projects

Required profile

• Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers
• Ability to solve practical problems and follow instructions carefully in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and co-workers
• Ability to maintain confidentiality on customer order details
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted; six months of similar or related experience is preferred
• All training is provided

Required skills

• Applying math skills including fractions, decimals and percentages in day-to-day tasks
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades where applicable, and to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards where applicable

The work is fast-paced and takes place mainly in a store environment, with exposure to dirt, noise, dampness, equipment movement hazards, electrical equipment and cleaning chemicals. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
