Floating Registered Pharmacist

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Floating Registered Pharmacist in its Pharmacy department in Cedar Falls, Iowa. This is a non-exempt position that works across multiple locations and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers and the Pharmacy Department Manager. The pharmacist provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, fills and verifies prescriptions and counsels patients in line with state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, greet customers by name and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly service to callers.
• Fill and/or verify prescriptions and counsel patients according to OBRA '90 regulations.
• Assist with controlled substance inventory annually or as recommended, and with monthly and annual inventory control, including ordering, stocking and entering inventory data.
• Assist with reconciliation and balancing of third-party accounts.
• Visit schools, doctors' offices and senior centers to market pharmacy services, and build growth and sales through counseling and wellness programs.
• Follow security and regulatory procedures, including Quality Assurance Programs, and assume responsibility for the department when the manager is absent.
• Coach, counsel and train employees, participate in additional education and training, and assist the HBC manager with ordering and merchandising OTC products.
• Maintain a professional appearance, keep confidential customer medical information under HIPAA, and acknowledge the risks of exposure to hazardous drugs (USP 800).

Required profile

• College degree and pharmacy licensure, with continuing education to maintain the license.
• Six months to a year of similar or related work experience.
• Medication Therapy Management (MTM) preferred; ability to administer immunizations.
• Ability to handle a fast pace in a retail setting, multiple tasks per day, and occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and solvents.
• Physical requirements: lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, and the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and feel.

Required skills

• Arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations.
• Pharmacy software and a PC with pharmacy equipment such as a balance, scanner, Telexon ordering unit and cash register.
