Financial Counseling Representative

About the role

R1 is hiring an on-site Financial Counseling Representative at Ascension Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas. The role helps uninsured and underinsured patients understand their coverage and financial assistance options. It is full time, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm, and involves regular travel between hospital floors and in-room visits with patients.

Key responsibilities

• Visit patients in their rooms to review their financial needs and available resources
• Screen for eligibility for Medicaid, Marketplace coverage, hospital financial assistance and other programs
• Help patients complete applications and gather required documents
• Explain coverage options, application steps and estimated patient responsibility clearly
• Support collection of amounts due in a respectful, patient-centered way
• Track application status, follow up on missing information and document activity
• Work with clinical, Patient Access and revenue cycle teams while protecting patient privacy

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassion and professionalism when discussing sensitive personal and financial information
• Ability to explain complex information simply and to handle multiple systems and priorities
• Ability to work on-site, move between floors and meet patients in their rooms

Preferred qualifications

• Experience in financial counseling, eligibility, Patient Access, registration, patient financial services or revenue cycle
• Knowledge of Medicaid, Marketplace coverage or hospital financial assistance programs
• Experience completing eligibility screenings, applications or supporting documentation
