Financial Coordinator – Oncology

About the role

The Financial Coordinator supports the Cancer Institute Infusion Centers by managing daily infusion schedules, securing authorizations, and ensuring accurate billing for chemotherapy and supportive care treatments. The role works closely with patient financial services and families to resolve account issues and reduce out‑of‑pocket costs.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain referrals, authorizations, and verify benefits and eligibility for infusion services.
• Prepare medical necessity checks, identify uninsured or under‑insured patients, and ensure registration and billing accuracy.
• Answer billing and insurance questions, track and report activities monthly, and arrange peer‑to‑peer processes for the Hematology Oncology office.
• Facilitate self‑pay estimates, off‑label/non‑covered service estimates, and ABN waiver processes.
• Assist patients with drug replacement programs, copay relief, and refer to external resources such as PATHS and APPRISE.
• Work denial queues in collaboration with Patient Financial Services and Appeals departments.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with at least 2 years of oncology experience.
• Ability to anticipate and document patients' financial needs and communicate them to appropriate personnel.
• Expert knowledge of third‑party insurance benefits, medical necessity rules, and oncology‑specific coverage issues.
• Maintain confidentiality, understand patient rights, and combine compassion with strong professional skills.
