Financial Aid Counselor

About the role

The Financial Aid Counselor serves as the primary point of contact for students interacting with the financial aid office, guiding them through applications, award interpretation, and responsible borrowing.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to incoming emails and phone calls regarding financial aid questions.
• Meet prospective students on campus to explain financial aid programs.
• Counsel students and parents on aid programs, scholarships, eligibility, and application processes.
• Assist with front‑counter operations for admissions, registration, graduation, and financial aid inquiries.
• Conduct one‑on‑one FAFSA assistance, award processing, and satisfactory progress counseling.
• Provide personalized loan counseling and exit counseling for borrowers.
• Advise parents on Parent PLUS Loan eligibility and application.
• Support administration of institutional and student‑athlete scholarships.
• Make outbound calls to assist students throughout the financial aid process.
• Collaborate on financial literacy programs with the Executive Director of Finance and Entrepreneurship.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• At least one year of related experience.
• Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules and regulations.
• Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, and provide excellent customer service.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Experience with Banner or comparable financial aid software.
• Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite.
