Finance Controller

About the role

Jacob & Co. is seeking an experienced Finance Controller to lead its accounting and bookkeeping functions. Based in Midtown Manhattan, you will oversee a team of four accountants, ensure accurate financial records, and support the broader finance organization.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and oversee a team of four junior and senior accountants.
• Manage accounting policies and procedures for general and administrative functions.
• Provide support to operating teams to ensure compliance with accounting rules.
• Maintain sales tax collection and filing procedures.
• Lead the monthly closing process and prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Organize and archive supporting documentation.
• Analyze and establish new customers and vendors.
• Assess, analyze, and report overdue accounts to management.
• Participate in quarterly reviews and communicate financial reporting matters to executives and auditors.
• Coordinate and review annual IFRS financial statements for subsidiaries.
• Develop and modify accounting policies and internal controls.
• Serve as primary contact for external audit teams and coordinate other audit engagements.
• Oversee government reporting requirements.
• Assist with due diligence and integration of acquired companies.
• Manage special projects and external consultants.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of professional accounting experience.
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience with QuickBooks and/or Microsoft Dynamics AX365 or BC365.
• Background in public accounting or luxury retail/wholesale is a plus.
