Accounting Manager

About the role

We are hiring an Accounting Manager to build the accounting function as the first full‑time accounting hire at Cogent. You will own the general ledger, monthly close, accounts payable, vendor payments, invoicing, collections, and tax compliance filings. Near‑term priorities include establishing a close calendar, creating a chart of accounts for management reporting, automating reconciliations, and selecting the ERP platform.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly close end‑to‑end: calendar, journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables; deliver monthly financials to leadership.
• Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and department structure; manage accrual, prepaid, and fixed‑asset schedules.
• Handle accounts payable end‑to‑end: intake, coding, approval routing, and payment runs in Ramp.
• Manage vendor onboarding, tax documentation, and international wire payments; enforce procurement and expense policies.
• Invoice customers and manage collections.
• Write and maintain accounting policies and internal controls; prepare the company for its first financial statement audit.
• Apply AI tooling to reconciliation, analysis, and documentation workflows.

Required profile

• 4+ years of accounting experience with exposure to public accounting or in‑house accounting at a scaling company.
• Proven ability to own a monthly close end‑to‑end, from planning to execution.
• Experience designing or rebuilding an accounting process from the ground up.
• Hands‑on experience with a general ledger system and a modern expense or AP platform (e.g., Ramp).
• Comfortable working in an early‑stage environment with broad scope and shifting priorities.
• Willingness to use AI tools in day‑to‑day accounting workflows.
