Field Assembly Manager – Third Shift

About the role

The Field Assembly Manager – Third Shift leads overnight assembly operations for the construction of a first‑of‑its‑kind fusion tokamak. Reporting to day‑shift leadership, the manager oversees three union trades—millwrights, welders and electricians—to ensure safe, efficient, and on‑schedule production.

Key responsibilities

• Direct supervision of third‑shift assembly activities, coordinating millwright, welding and electrical work to meet daily and weekly production targets.
• Monitor shift progress, conduct start‑up meetings, and provide detailed shift reports on performance, downtime, quality issues and outstanding tasks.
• Resolve trade conflicts, manage labor relations with union leadership, and ensure proper staffing, sequencing and preparation of work areas.
• Supervise high‑precision mechanical, electrical and structural assembly of tokamak components, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and work instructions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations or related field preferred; equivalent leadership experience considered.
• 5+ years of experience in complex manufacturing, assembly or construction environments, preferably with unionized workforces.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, welding and electrical assembly processes and industrial safety practices.

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Mechanical assembly, welding and electrical installation techniques.
• Industrial safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout.
• Use of ERP, MES and production‑scheduling systems.
• Lean manufacturing and continuous‑improvement methodologies.
