About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Fast & Fresh Clerk for its store in Springfield, Illinois. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service in the fast and fresh department, operates the cash register accurately and keeps the store clean and stocked. It is a non-exempt position reporting to the district store director, store manager and department managers.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers by name, answer the telephone and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their suggestions.
• Scan products, redeem coupons and food stamps, process cash, checks and credit cards, figure discounts, count back change and issue receipts.
• Place goods in bags or boxes, assist with inventory, receive deliveries, fill displays and stock shelves.
• Maintain the lot, shovel snow, spread ice melt, hose down the lot, refill towel holders and window washer fluid, and remove trash.
• Clean registers, restrooms, break room and backroom, sweep and mop floors, and follow sanitation and hygiene guidelines.
• Order merchandise and supplies as needed, price products for customers, and complete other job-related duties and special projects.

Required profile

• No education or experience requirements.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and to file, copy, interview and give basic directions.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, with vision and color vision with or without correction.
• Working conditions include temperature extremes, dampness, moving equipment, electrical shock risk and cleaning chemicals; the work is fast-paced.

• Anticipated hourly starting wage of $15.00 to $18.75 depending on experience.
