Fast and Fresh Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Fast and Fresh Clerk in Topeka, Kansas. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service in the fast and fresh department, operates the cash register accurately and keeps the store clean and stocked. It is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Perishables and Health Wellness Home, and the Fast and Fresh Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their requests
• Answer the telephone promptly and work as a team to keep the shopping experience pleasant
• Scan products, redeem coupons and food stamps, process cash, checks and credit cards, figure discounts, count back change and issue receipts
• Bag merchandise, assist with inventory, receive deliveries, fill displays and stock shelves
• Maintain the lot, shovel snow, spread ice melt, hose down the lot, refill towel holders and window washer fluid, and remove trash
• Clean registers, restrooms, break room and backroom, sweep and mop floors, and follow sanitation and hygiene guidelines
• Order merchandise and supplies as needed, price products for customers, and handle invoices

Required profile

• Must be 18 years or older
• No education or experience requirements
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and file, post and mail materials
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and to climb, balance, kneel, reach and stand
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction

Working conditions include frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock and cleaning chemicals, in a fast-paced environment. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
