Facilities Engineer – Preventive Maintenance

About the role

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is seeking a Facilities Engineer to lead preventive and scheduled maintenance across its campus. The position works a 4 PM – 12 AM shift, Friday through Tuesday, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off, ensuring all building systems operate safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain central heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, electrical service, water supply and plumbing systems.
• Manage VAV, reheat units, pumps and related auxiliaries.
• Oversee Building Automation Systems (BAS), Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Computerized Maintenance Systems.
• Test and verify life‑safety systems, including fire, electrical and water systems.
• Coordinate with external contractors and vendors on building projects and repairs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of experience with building HVAC systems, including supervisory or management responsibilities.
• High‑Pressure Boiler Operator certification and certification in recovery of refrigerant types 1, 2 and 3.
• Appropriate local engineering license.
• Ability to work on ladders, in crawl spaces, lift at least 50 lb and respond to off‑hour emergencies.
• Pass initial and subsequent drug tests and comply with Federal Reserve ethics rules.
